BNA Publishes Guide Outlining New Transparency Rules for Financial Institutions

The National Bank of Angola (BNA) has posted the implementation guide for “Principle V, on transparency” on its website. The initiative aims to guide financial institutions in the gradual implementation of sustainability principles within the Angolan financial system.

During the process of implementing the new rules, institutions must observe the principle of proportionality, as provided for in Article 22 of Law No. 14/21 of May 19 (Law on the General Regime for Financial Institutions).
To comply with the principle of transparency and reporting, the regulator emphasizes that entities in the sector must ensure the consistency, comparability, and credibility of the data disclosed to the market and to stakeholders.
The document will now be prepared annually and must include detailed information on: sustainability governance and strategy; risks, opportunities, and impact on business and financial planning; sustainability risk management; scenario data and resilience tests; financial inclusion; sustainable financing; and social aspects. According to the BNA, sustainability reports must be published on each institution’s website, preferably in conjunction with the annual financial reporting cycle. The goal is to ensure that the information provided is relevant, clear, reliable, complete, timely, accessible, and methodologically consistent over time.
