Public infrastructures with dedicated page on the Public Transparency Portal

A page exclusively dedicated to publicizing public spending on building, repairing, rehabilitating and maintaining infrastructure is being developed to provide the public with information in this area.

The Public Transparency Portal will now disclose public spending on infrastructure. To this end, it is creating a dedicated page to provide information to the public. The information will be gathered from the acts carried out by those in public power and published in the Diário da República and other official sources.

The aim is to encourage the government to be more transparent in the execution of public expenditure in the field of infrastructure. In recent years, several billion dollars have been spent on building and repairing roads, bridges, dams, hospitals, schools, etc. However, many of these projects, despite having consumed public money on a large scale, were never built and others, once built, did not last as long as expected.

Corruption is a phenomenon that is rooted in various segments of the public sector, but there is no doubt that one of the biggest sinkholes that siphons off public money is construction work, which almost always never comes to an end, and if it does, it is short-lived.

Readers and users of the portal can leave their suggestions or contributions by sending an e-mail to the PTP editorial office.
