Angola rises six places in the Corruption Perceptions Index 2021

INTERNATIONAL TRANSPARENCY FINDS "SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS"

Angola jumps six places in the 2021 Corruption Perception Index, by Transparency International, being one of the countries in sub-Saharan Africa that has made the most progress, moving from position 142 in 2020 to 136, with 29 points.

 

The Corruption Perceptions Index, released this Tuesday by the organization Transparency International, ranks 180 countries and territories by their levels of perception of corruption in the public sector, on a scale from zero (highly corrupt) to 100 points (clean of perception of corruption).

 

Angola registers “a significant improvement” since the election of João Lourenço, according to the non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Berlin, although it maintains a score (29 points) lower than the average of sub-Saharan African countries, of 33 points.

 

Among Portuguese-speaking countries, Portugal appears in the index in 33rd position with 62 points. This is followed by Cape Verde (39th position, 58 points), S. Tomé and Príncipe (68th position, 45 points), Timor-Leste (82nd position, 41 points), Angola (136th position, 29 points), Guinea Bissau (162nd position, 21 points) and Equatorial Guinea, in 171st position, with only 17 points.
