Press Law – Law n.º 1/17 of January 23rd (amended by Law n.º17/22, of July 6th), this Law aims to implement the exercise of fundamental rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens, in terms of it concerns freedom of the press and expression;

CHAPTER 1, SECTION III, ARTICLE 11 (Content of public interest) – for the purposes of this Law, information that has the following general purposes is understood to be of public interest:

  • Contribute to consolidate the Angolan State, reinforce unity and national identity and preserve territorial integrity;
  • Inform the public with truth, independence, objectivity and exemption and impartiality, about all national and international events, ensuring the right of citizens to correct, impartial and impartial information;
  • Ensure the free expression of public opinion and civil society;
  • Promoting good governance and the correct administration of public affairs;
  • Contribute to raising the population's socio-economic level and awareness of citizenship.

It is also understood as being of public interest, among others, the news and information:

  • Relating to crimes, misdemeanors and other anti-social conduct;
    Concerning the guarantee of the protection of public health and the safety of citizens;
  • Relating to events in public spaces;
  • Provided or disclosed by the public authorities;
  • Obtained in administrative and judicial proceedings not subject to secrecy of justice.
